ACRONYMS
Many people working in the field of health and human services
often rattle off acronyms like the drop of a hat, but there
are some who do not know or remember what their meanings are
and those just entering the field are at a total loss by the
alphabet soup of acronyms. The Suffolk Community Council
is delighted to offer a listing of Acronyms, a product of
Michele Del Monte and Dolly Ciapetta, both members of the
Suffolk County Department of Social Services Commissioner's
Advisory Council. This is a wonderful resource and we
are most grateful to them and the agencies and Departments
for their generous support of their time. The definitions
have been taken directly from the departments, agencies, regulations
or laws. They were not edited to fit neither our format
nor perceptions; they are simply a matter of record.
Also, rather than redefining all the provider agencies in
the area, this simply refers people to the Community Resource
Database of LI, as this is less duplication of effort, and
better utilization of resources. Click
here for the Acronyms list...

About our Logo:
The Suffolk Community
Council's logo conveys a fresh and spirited direction for
our agency. We selected an S
shape contained within a C curve
to represent the letters starting the words Suffolk Community
and Council. But combined, the illustration offers so much
more.
The S,
representing Suffolk, is contained within the C
to illustrate that our community action
focuses on the Suffolk region. The S
was designed to look like a pathway, since the collaborative
work of the Suffolk Community Council provides a path to stronger
community ties and services within our region.
The C
curve was shaped like a wave to convey
that we can create waves of power within the communities we
serve. The wave is tied together with our new tagline, Creating
Strong Communities, to reinforce our overarching goal.
